International Womens Day Celebration at SVSU

र्यस्तु पूज्यन्ते रमन्ते तत्र देवताः |
यतैतास्तु न पूज्यन्ते सर्वास्तत्राफलाः क्रियाः || – मनुस्मृति

Manusmriti places women on a high pedestal at par with gods and goddesses exhorting each one of us to treat women equally and fairly so that our endeavors in all spheres achieve the desired fruition.

It doesn’t tells us to worship women literally like a goddess, but provide encouragement, empowerment, opportunities in equal measure like we do for the male off-spring.

Celebrating International Day for Women on 8 March has a recent beginning. It only started in 1975, by the efforts of the United Nations Organisation. Manusmriti dates back to 2nd century BCE. As a social code it has shown way to civilizations.

Women in different societies have struggled a lot for their rights – suffrage, social recognition, economic status, political freedom and access to amenities. Their struggles are still on in the various parts of the world.
Women have an onerous task, i.e. of raising and sustaining the family. At times this task comes in their way to achieve the career progression. They at times, have to sacrifice their prosperous career for the sake of children and family.

Women have made impressive strides in various fields in India. They have shattered the glass ceiling in many sectors as well. They are excelling in the jobs and sectors, considered unfit for women hitherto fore.
In Feb 2020, the Supreme Court of India, in a landmark judgement cleared way for women officers of the armed forces to command the units and formations.

Despite all these successes and achievements, there is still a lot to be done at the family, society and government level to provide a level playing field to the daughters of India, so that they can achieve what men can’t.
Best wishes on International day for Women.
