The Skill Department of Tourism and Hospitality (SDTH) was established in 2017 under the aegis of the Skill Faculty of Management Studies & Research (SFMSR), Shri Vishwakarma Skill University, Palwal, with a clear mandate to nurture skilled, industry-ready professionals for the ever-evolving service sector. The department began its journey with the Diploma in Ethnic Food and Traditional Sweets, launched in collaboration with Bikanerwala as an industry partner, laying a strong foundation for skill-based, industry-integrated education. Over the years, SDTH has grown steadily in scope and strength and now offers four career- oriented programs: Undergraduate Certificate in Food Production and Traditional Sweets, Bachelor of Hotel Management, BBA in Airlines and Airport Management, Post-Graduate Program in Airport Operations and Management and PhD in Tourism & Hospitality in collaboration with esteemed industry partners like Roseate Hotels & Resorts, Courtyard by Marriot, Akashganga by ITC, Bikanerwala, Biryani by Kilos, Airport Authority of India and many more. Each program is thoughtfully designed to align academic learning with industry requirements, ensuring that students acquire relevant knowledge, practical exposure, and professional competence. The vision of the department is to prepare a large pool of skilled service professionals who can seamlessly contribute to diverse sectors such as hotels, cruises, airlines, travel and tourism organizations, railways, banks, multinational companies, and allied service industries. Equally important is our focus on nurturing entrepreneurial abilities, which are systematically embedded within the curriculum to encourage innovation, self-employment, and leadership among students. Our teaching–learning process is experiential and holistic, combining classroom instruction with hands-on practical training, demonstrations by industry experts, expert talks, industry interactions, field and educational visits, workshops, training programs, and extensive On-Job Training (OJT). The OJT component embodies the philosophy of “Earn While Learn”, enabling students to gain real-time industry experience along with financial support in the form of stipends. At SDTH, we strongly believe in transformative education. Students undergo a visible professional and personal evolution from the time they join the program to the time they graduate. Through a curriculum that emphasizes soft skills, behavioural competencies, technical expertise, and ethical values, our graduates emerge as confident, competent, and industry-acceptable professionals, ready to meet global service standards.
